Visual Workplace or 5S?
Saturday, September 13th, 2008I guess it hard to get paid for talking and writing about housekeeping, so people have come up with lots of ways to describe it using initials and fancy language. The 5S’s came first, describing three activities (sort, set in order, and shine) and two agreements needed to maintain them as a part of the company culture (standardize and sustain). People add safety etc and call it different things like the Visual Workplace. That’s cool because it is described as an environment where it easy to do things right. The P2 team calls it 7S because they added two results (spirit or moral, and safety) to remind people why they were doing it in the first place. They keep it simple and call it organizing for success.
