Most people use a pick when they play acoustic guitar. Picks come in different shapes and sizes but nearly everyone puts them to use in their acoustic guitar playing. Most people hold them between their thumb and forefinger. You need to keep a tight grip on your flat pick but not so tight it is hard to control. As you get better with your guitar playing this skill will get easier to do. Everyone holds the pick a little different so your own style will probably come to you.
